How to change a Flat Tire on the Road Side

Are you looking for information on how to change a flat tire? If so, you’ve come to the right place! In this article, Gresham Towing 247 will break down the steps you need to follow for successfully changing a flat tire.

Step 1 – Pull Over Safely to The Side of The Road

This step is important (especially if you’re on the highway) because you want to pull over to the shoulder or side of the road where you will have enough space to safely change your tire without having to be concerned with oncoming traffic.

Step 2 – Turn on Your Emergency Flashers

You will want to do this to notify other drivers that your vehicle is there on the side of the road and you should also place an emergency flare near your vehicle (if you have one with you) since this will make it easier for other drivers to see your vehicle.

Step 3 – Find Your Spare Tire & Tools

If you’re driving a car, most cars have the spare in the trunk. Consult your vehicle owner’s manual to find out where it’s located.

As for trucks and other vehicles you may find your spare tire chained under your truck or locked to the outside of your vehicle.

Once you find your spare you will need to find your tools which should include a jack and lug wrench to remove the lug nuts from the wheel. Most vehicles come with the tools that you need to change a tire but you may need to invest in a jack separately if your vehicle doesn’t have one.

Step 4 – Change the Tire

Expand your jack until your flat tire is about 6 inches away from the ground, use your wrench to remove the lug nuts from the wheel, remove the flat tire and replace with your spare or “doughnut” tire and use your wrench to screw on the lug nuts.

Lower the vehicle back to the ground, place the flat tire in your vehicle with your tools, clean your hands and you’re done!
